Lessons

Music Education Starts with 1-on-1 Instruction

At Ready Set Gig, we believe theory and practice go hand-in-hand. The student’s journey begins with 1-on-1 weekly lessons meant to accomplish three important goals: mastering foundational skills we refer to as Benchmarks, understanding of how to play songs in the current session, and eventually, how the performance elements and theoretical elements fit together into building total musicianship. The lessons are highly customized to move at the student’s pace, and always with an eye toward the benchmarks so families always know the roadmap of where we are going.

Vocals

We are all born with an instrument – our voices. Singing is a fun way we all connect with music. At Ready Set Gig, we take someone through the Benchmarks to deliver a broad range of activity designed to strengthen pitch, tone, volume, and control in order to build a singer’s ability to connect with listeners. As a singer progresses toward vocal mastery, we add in important components like vocal style and stage presence to develop our signers beyond mere voices and into a mindset of total performance. Benchmarks include a variety of key activities such as:

  • (basic) Posture, scalar and breathing warmups, tone improvement and pitch
  • (intermediate) Reading sheet music in treble and bass cleff, harmonizing in 3rds and 5ths
  • (advanced) Belting, voice care, transitioning from chest to head voice
Bass

Danceable, bass-driven rhythms people can feel have been infused into seemingly all music produced these days. The popularity of musical genres like funk, hip-hop and R&B have made the bass a key fixture in modern music. Whether you’re brand-new to the instrument or a recovering guitar player looking to switch, Ready Set Gig can provide you with 1-on-1 instruction, group rehearsals, ear training and our Benchmarks that, when combined with regular practice at home, give you the skills needed to jump on stage and get things bumping. Haven’t purchased a bass yet? No problem! We’ve got a range of 3/4- and full-scale size loaner instruments from Ibanez available for use. As players progress, we add important components to round out play. Benchmarks include a variety of key activities such as:

DJ

The impact of technology on modern music is as profound as it is far-reaching. With its catchy, danceable arrangements, electronic dance music (EDM) has exploded in popularity, making the art of mixing and DJ a highly sought-after musical skill. At Ready Set Gig, we offer 1-on-1 instruction, group rehearsals, ear training and our Benchmarks that, when combined with regular practice at hime, will give you the skills needed to jump on stage behind the turntable and get people on their feet. Haven’t purchased a DDJ controller table yet? No problem! We have equipment available for use at the school, waiting for you to plug in your crate of digital tracks on a thumb drive. As players progress, we add important components to round out play. Benchmarks include a variety of key activities such as:

As players progress, we add important play components to round out play. Benchmarks include a variety of key activities such as:

Our players experience the thrill of learning to play on our high-quality all-acoustic Mapex kits with upgraded Remo heads and Zildjian cymbals.
